The Taos Music Scene

Whether you like rock, country, blues, jazz, classical, or world music, Taos offers something for every music lover. You can enjoy nightly performances at several area bars, attend annual festivals or see a performance at the Taos Center for the Arts or area museums. Plus, free weekly music is offered in the plaza downtown on Thursday nights during the summer.

If you love to people watch in a great historic place with a full service bar and restaurant, check out the Adobe Bar at the Taos Inn. Featured artists include a huge variety with flamenco, jazz, bluegrass, Americana, alt-country, gospel, Celtic, world, and native folk music. Online at:

The Taos Center for the Arts features Music from Angel Fire in the summer with renowned international chamber music artists. They offer additional concerts throughout the year as well as movies, dance, theater and other performances.

If you’d like to hear music that is also broadcast live on local radio, check out the KTAOS Solar Center. Web: With weekly performances, it is a nationally recognized live music venue. The Center also provides a full service bar and restaurant.

El Monte Sagrado is a resort and conference center located near downtown that offers live rock, country and other music in its Anaconda Bar. Check their Web site for a schedule:

The Taos Chamber Music Group holds concerts from September through June. Their repertoire includes not only Baroque and contemporary works but also lesser known chamber music works, with compositions by Latin American, Spanish, Native American, Baltic, Middle Eastern, women and jazz composers. The two day Taos Solar Music Festival, held in late June each year, draws some big name talent. The 2012 festival featured Lyle Lovett, Los Lobos, and many other well known bands. Online at:

Many of the events at the Taos Pueblo include Native American music. The summer Pow Wow is open to anyone who wishes to see traditional dances and music.

For a taste of Hispanic music and culture, plan to attend the Fiestas de Taos in July. Located on the Taos Plaza, the fiesta includes music, dance and traditional processions. Visit;

Angel Fire is a short and scenic drive from Taos. Their annual summer festival is called Music from Angel Fire. World renowned artists perform an impressive array of works from the great classical, romantic, baroque and contemporary masters. Online:
