Theater, Dance and Self-Enrichment

Taos has several local theater and dance companies that offer performances and workshops. In addition, you can see HD broadcasts of the National Theatre of London at the Taos Community Auditorium. New Mexican pueblos provide opportunities to view traditional Native American dances and culture. If you’re interested in self-enrichment while visiting Taos, many organizations offer educational workshops on a variety of topics for a day, weekend, week or even longer.

Taos Center for the Arts

The Taos Center for the Arts hosts many types of performances in the Taos Community Auditorium, including HD broadcasts, live music, theater and dance, and movies. Encore Gallery is located in the lobby of the auditorium and has changing exhibits. Sometimes they also host exhibits in the Stables Gallery, a historic downtown building.

Taos Youth Ballet

The Taos Youth Ballet offers classes and performances. Founded in 2005, it is one of the leading dance schools in northern New Mexico.

Working Class Theatre

Metta Theater

Located in El Prado, the Metta Theater offers weekly acting workshops for young people and adults and presents plays, readings, lectures and film screenings year round.

Native American Dances

The pueblos in New Mexico have traditional dances and events several times each year. Many of these are open to the public, although in most cases, no photography or filming is allowed. In addition to the Taos Pueblo, nearby pueblos include Picuris Pueblo, Santa Clara Pueblo and Pojoaque Pueblo.
